One of the fantastic things about ACT software is the information that it keeps. ACT can keep track of past events such as meetings, phone calls, emails and more.Tony Holowitz: Act Certified Consultant

Let’s face it, most people that use ACT are striving to be more organized in their personal and business lives. From a business point of view, it is important to know when to do things and when things have not been done. My experience has been that many ACT users don’t always use it to help you make sure that things haven’t slipped through the cracks, and they should.

It is important to know when a key client or prospect has not been contacted recently.

To make the most out of ACT you have to put some thought into what goes into it. In other words, the garbage in. If you take the time to put certain information into ACT you can get information out of ACT (garbage out) that is relevant to your situation and your goals. A simple example of this is following up with clients. If you intend to contact your clients by phone every 90 days it is important that you log calls into ACT. There is more than one way to do this, it does not have to be overwhelming.

When I’m working with my clients they quite often ask me to help them generate reports. It is at this point that GIGO becomes apparent and relevant. You can only report on the information that is in ACT. But in reverse you can also report on things that aren’t there, things that haven’t been done. Sometimes, this can be more relevant than the things that are done. When I first start working with the client I asked them what their goals are. Based on that, I show them how to manage ACT to give them the feedback they need to help them achieve their goals.

Once you start thinking about GIGO, ACT will take on a whole new life.
